Fort Hancock Coast Defense Days/Ocean Fun Days
Sunday 17 May 2026, 11AM to 4:30PM

Please join Army Ground Forces Association (AGFA) and the Sandy Hook Unit (National Park Service) and New Jersey SeaGrant Consortium for Ocean Fun Days and Coast Defense Days! To learn more about Ocean Fun Days, visit https://oceanfundays.org/

Coast Defense Days explores how the US Army protected New York Harbor (and all other American harbors) during WWII from Axis threat.

Volunteer living historians from the Army Ground Forces Association (AGFA) uniformed as World War II era Coast Artillery soldiers will take you back in time to the most fully restored WWII seacoast artillery gun battery in the USA. You will see the only educationally operable US Army seacoast cannon in the USA. You will see historians recreate a loading drill on one of the two M1900 6-inch guns and perform that drill within the prescribed 15 seconds allotted. You will see the ammunition magazine, historic telephone communications systems (that work!). Army medical equipment, chemical warfare equipment, artillery ammunition (instructional dummies), fire control instruments and optical sights and be able to handle historic items and to talk with knowledgeable historians about the equipment and time period of 1943 at Fort Hancock.

We will close promptly at 1630 (4:30 PM).

We look forward to seeing you!
